BOTOX
Botox is a purified form of the botulinum toxin that is obtained from bacteria. In large amounts it is harmful but when the amount is regulated then it is used to correct wrinkles and has long lasting effects.
It works by blocking nerve signals and when those nerve signals are interrupted, the affected muscle is temporarily paralyzed or frozen which helps in removing wrinkles (which are caused by muscle tension) and expression lines on the face. They are nothing but neuromodulators.
BOTOX is the most popular brand which is used worldwide.
The most common wrinkles that Botox can be used to treat are lines on the upper face, horizontal lines (tension lines) on the forehead, and crow’s feet around the eyes. These lines are caused by facial expressions such as smiling, frowning, squinting, etc.
Botox does not work on fine lines and wrinkles which are referred to as static wrinkles, most commonly include those on the cheeks, neck and jaw areas.
This is not a permanent treatment. Repeated treatment sessions are necessary at intervals of 3-4 months.
